Attorney General Race
Hudson Valley, 11/4/98
Celebrations will have to wait until next week. The race for New York state Attorney General is still too close to call Tuesday morning. The Democrat challenger Elliot Spitzer and incumbent Republican Dennis Vacco may have to wait until next week before they know for sure who won. That's because absentee ballots can't be opened until next week. With 98 percent of the precincts reporting at this hour, both candidates are holding at 48 percent. A tight race is nothing new for Vacco. In '94, he also ran in a photo-finish for the attorney general post. It was four years ago when he slid past Democrat Karen Burnstein by 88-thousand votes out of more than five million cast.
