Election Day

Hudson Valley, 11/3/98

It's election day across the region and the voting has begun. Governor George Pataki voted with his wife at the Garrison Firehouse in Garrison. The governor was wearing casual slacks and a sweater. He says he will do some light campaigning in Putnam and Northern Westchester before going to New York City for the final vote count. The Republican Governor is seeking his second four year term. He says he feels confident. The polls have him with a two to one lead over Democrat Peter Vallone. He says his main concern is getting U-S Senator Alfonse D'Amato re-elected. D'Amato is in a close race against Democrat Charles Schumer. D'Amato voted in Island Park, Long Island Tuesday morning. Schumer voted in his hometown in Brooklyn. The election for New York State Senate will be the most watched in this area and around the country. Polls are open until 9pm in New York and until 8pm in New Jersey and Connecticut. RNN reporters will be with the Republicans and Democrats at their party headquarters to await the final count. Look for the complete coverage on election night.
