Final Day
Westchester/Rockland
, 11/2/98
Republicans and Democrats are urging their party faithful to vote in New York's down-to-the-wire Senate race. Candidates are making a final sprint to Election Day. The race between Republican U-S Senator Alfonse D'Amato and Democratic challenger Charles Schumer continues to be the fiercest fight in the state. It is also the most costly. Wall Street has contributed 1.179 million dollars to D'Amato, which is the most received than any other member of Congress. Schumer was in second with 1.157 million. In this last day before Election Day, Senate hopeful Rep. Charles Schumer campaigned at the Metro-North station in Larchmont Monday morning, greeting trench-coated commuters as they rushed for trains to Manhattan. His rival, incumbent Sen. Alfonse D'Amato, headed to Brooklyn for the second day in a row, this time to meet voters in Floyd Bennett Field and Brighton Beach. In Westchester, most voters smiled at Schumer, a Democrat, and a few shook hands. His daughters Alison and Jessica helped hand out campaign stickers. Hillary Clinton is in town for Schumer and will appear with him Monday afternoon. RNN will bring you both D'Amato and Schumer and how they are spending their final day before the election.
