Arson Arrest

Hudson Valley, 11/6/98

The son of a murder victim is in jail for a string of arsons in the Hudson Valley. Twenty-one year old James Stabler is the son of murder victim Roger Stabler. His mother, Ruth, admitted to helping her on-line lover cover-up her husband murder. Stabler confessed to setting barn fires which he said he did because he was angry about his father's death. He also burnt down his parent's home because he said if his father couldn't enjoy the house, nobody could. Stabler targeted barns of farmers he had worked at and those who made comments in the paper about the arsonist. Police say Stabler was being watched after his parent's home was torched in July. Police gave him a lie detector test which he passed, but it was tough for him when he spoke about the house and his father's murder. Stabler is in Ulster County Jail on $250,000 bail.
