Next Speaker

It was a historical vote. Democratic lawmakers have picked Stamford Representative Moira Lyons as the next speaker of the House, making her the first woman to hold the post in state history. No stranger to setting precedent, Lyons was the first woman to serve as House majority leader, a post she held for two terms. She was unopposed in the bid to become speaker last night, and was unanimously elected by state representatives. The Senate and House both remain in Democratic control.
