Land Sale

Putnam County is going to sell properties that owe back taxes. The land sale is done by bids that have to be submitted by November 18th. Properties that have not had taxes paid for at least three years go on the auction block. Attorney William Shilling handles the tax sale for the county. He says it's a good way for people to buy cheap acreage, or get a run down house they can fix up. He adds some parcels are too small to build on and may be wanted by neighbors as a way to expand their properties. Shilling says 400 parcels are being auctioned. He says last year the land sale brought in a million dollars, he adds the auction sometimes gets the delinquent taxpayer to come forward and pay their bill. The bids will be opened November 20th.
