Woodstock '99

Hudson Valley, 11/5/98

Will there be a 30th anniversary celebration? Town officials are considering whether to grant a permit for Woodstock '99. The event proposed to begin July 24 would be similar to the Woodstock '94 concert that attracted 350,000 people to the Winston Farm, according to promoter Woodstock Ventures. Since the original Woodstock in 1969 there have been several revivals of the concert that riveted the attention of the country and a generation. Among the proposals for the 1999 event, which will be conducted one week following a five-day Woodstock '99 concert in Vienna, Austria, are improvements in camping, parking, and ticket sales, according to the Kingston Freeman. Applications for use of the Winston Farm are expected to be filed this month by concert promoter Woodstock Ventures. Town officials said the paperwork will include a mass gathering permit and environmental impact statement. Woodstock Ventures' principal Michael Lang has said some performers are booked for the European show and expects bands to play at both locations. He would not comment on the line-up, but l would feature music that attracts a college-age crowd.
