Woodstock '99
Hudson Valley, 11/10/98
Peace, love and music don't come to mind when state police Captain Michael Cahill thinks of the Woodstock 25th anniversary concert. Cahill's memories of the huge concert include security guards who joined the party and others who stopped checking tickets as soon as the show started. Cahill says that security and public safety were the major concerns. The head of the Ulster County trooper barracks was among the officials who spoke Monday night at panel discussion on whether to allow another Woodstock concert in 1999. Promoters of the 1994 concert want to stage a 30th anniversary show at the same site in Saugerties, 40 miles south of Albany. Local officials are concerned about a repeat of the 1994 event, when an estimated 350-thousand people showed up, most of them without tickets. Town officials are considering whether to O-K another three-day concert, planned for next August.
