Ceremony Moved

New Jersey, 11/12/98

Governor Whitman's pro-choice stand is the reason a ceremony honoring her has been moved. A student-sponsored ceremony at Seton Hall University honoring Governor Whitman is now moved off-campus as a result of protests to the governor's pro-choice position. The administration of the university's School of Law approved the move of the ceremony largely as a symbolic gesture. The governor is slated to receive the Sixth Annual Sandra Day O'Connor Medal of Honor on Monday. The ceremony is being organized by three prominent student organizations. Invitations to the event say it's at the law school auditorium but the administration moved it to the Newark Club next door. The move comes after protests from members of pro-life organizations and religious leaders. A spokesman f the administration move and was happy to receive the award. The students organizing the event, however, say they're angered by the change.
