Officer Resignation

Connecticut, 11/11/98

An officer has quit due to criminal charges. A city police officer facing federal criminal charges for allegedly sending threatening letters to his in-laws has resigned from the police force. Troy Docimo, 34, quit the police department on Oct. 27, his attorney Robert Skovgaard said Tuesday. "At this point in Troy's life, it was an appropriate move for him for personal reasons and the pending charges," Skovgaard said. Docimo had been on paid leave before resigning and had been on the force since June 1995. Court documents accused Docimo of sending eight threatening letters to his wife's family members between April and September of this year. The arrest warrant affidavit remained under court seal and further details of the allegations were not released. Docimo was arrested on an FBI warrant Sept. 24 and freed after posting bond. He was ordered to undergo psychiatric treatment at Hall-Brooke Hospital in Westport.
