Rockefeller Tree

New York City, 11/10/98

Tis the season. The Rockefeller Christmas tree is coming. The tree was cut down this morning outside a house in suburban Cleveland. It's been loaded on a truck and will be flown from Cleveland's Airport to New York Wednesday. The 73-foot high, seven-ton Norway spruce was planted in Ethel and Adolph Szitar's front yard in 1938, after it served as the family's Christmas tree that year. Mrs. Szitar, who's 81, says it's exciting to see how the workers manipulate the tree with a large crane and suspended it in air after the cutting. Rockefeller Center gets the tree free but will provide a three-day trip to New York for Mrs. Szitar, her two children and three grandchildren next month. Adolph Szitar's health may prevent him from going.
