DMV Stickers

New Jersey, 11/9/98

The state Division of Motor Vehicles is trying to come up with ways to crack down on inspection sticker theft. Officials say thieves have stolen more than 40-thousand stickers so far this year. And Motor Vehicles statistics show that burglars have made off with nearly 72-thousand stickers in the past two years. Law enforcement and insurance company officials say vendors generally sell the stickers to uninsured or unlicensed motorists or to people driving stolen cars. But they also turn up on cars involved in insurance fraud rings, and unscrupulous repair shops use them, too. As of Monday, motor vehicle inspection stations will be run by Parsons Infrastructure and Technology Group. The private company will keep up the security that the DMV has begun.
