Indian Land
Hudson Valley, 11/9/98
An Ulster County landowner denies rumors that he's planning to turn over part of his property so an American Indian group can build a gambling casino in the Hudson Valley. Harry Fotopoulos of New York City says he's prepared to turn over 75 acres of his land in the town of Olive to the Indian group for use as a camp or theme park. He says there are no plans for a casino. Casinos are prohibited in New York state, except on land owned by American Indians. The state's only casino is the Oneida-run Turning Stone, near Utica. Fotopoulos says the possible uses of the land by the Indians includes a theme park or a children's camp with hunting, fishing and swimming.
