Wayne Gretzky and the North America team won its second straight N-H-L All-Star Game over the World team 8-to-6 at Tampa. Gretzky was named the game's Most Valuable Player after getting a goal and two assists. Mike Modano topped all North American scorers with a goal and three assists.
The Vancouver Canucks have fired coach Mike Keenan and replaced him with former Colorado coach Marc Crawford. Canucks general manager Brian Burke says Keenan occasionally seemed indifferent behind the bench. The Canucks entered the All-Star break 15-24-and-6, winning just twice in their last 13 games.
Andre Agassi has lost in the fourth round of the Australian Open for the second straight year. Agassi was victimized by fellow American Vincent Spadea 6-1, 7-5, 6-7, 6-3. Todd Martin of Florida is also in the quarters. Martina Hingis advanced to the women's quarterfinals, as did Monica Seles, Steffi Graf and Mary Pierce.
