The Rangers lose in overtime.
The Blueshirts rallied to tie Carolina 2-2 in the third period with a goal from Mathieu Schneider. But in overtime, Gary Roberts beat goalie Mike Richter to send the Rangers to the showers. Now the Rangers travel to Detroit to take on the Red Wings. The Devils Martin Brodear stops 40 shots in the Devils 2-nothing shutout at Boston. It's New Jersey's fourth straight win. Bobby Holik and Jason Arnott scored for the Devils. New Jersey hosts Nashville next.
The Knicks play the Nets again tonight in a pre-season game at the Meadowlands. On Wednesday night, a full Knicks squad just barely edged a New Jersey team without its tops players suited up. This is the last pre-season game before the N-B-A's abbreviated season starts for the two area teams.
