New Jersey leads the league with 17 road wins after Petr Sykora recorded two goals and an assist in a 4-to-1 triumph at Carolina. Patrick Elias (EHL'-ee-ahsh) had a goal and an assist and Krzysztof Oliwa (KRIS'-tahf OH'-lee-wah) added a goal as the Devils moved ten games over .500 on the road.

New Jersey broke the game open when Oliwa and Sykora scored in the last three minutes. Martin Brodeur (broh-DYOOR') made 29 saves and was perfect until Keith Primeau scored his 23rd goal six minutes into the final period.

Darren McCarty scored twice and flattened Rich Pilon (PEE'-lahn) during Detroit's 5-to-1 win over the New York Islanders. McCarty nailed the Islander defenseman in the first period, setting the tone for a very physical game.

Steve Yzerman (EYE'-zur-mihn) opened the scoring with his 20th goal and set up McCarty's 14th. Martin Lapointe and Brendan Shanahan also scored for the Red Wings, who played without defensemen Larry Murphy and Todd Gill.

Tonight the Islanders are at the Boston Bruins. The Rangers entertain the Vancouver Canucks. And the New Jersey Devils are at the Saint Louis Blues.
