An effort to beat the heat ends in tragedy in New Jersey.
Two Englewood men, one in his twenties, the other a teen, climbed a fence yesterday to take a late night dip in the Englewood Community Pool.
When one began screaming for help, a man walking his dog jump came to their aid.
Gus Latouche was able to pull one out, but when he tried to pull the other out of the 12-foot section he found himself being dragged under.
He had to let go.
He ran to a phone and called police, who were able to pull the man out, but were not able to resuscitate him.
Police are giving no names or details yet.
