Alex Kelly faces a possible 20 years in prison in the rape of a 16-year-old girl more than a decade ago, reports WCBS' Fran Schneidau.
A jury in Stamford yesterday convicted Kelly of first-degree sexual assault. He was accused of raping the girl in the back of a Jeep Wagoneer after a high school party in 19-86. Kelly lived as a fugitive in Europe for eight years before surrendering in 19-95. Prosecutor Bruce Hudock cites several factors including new testimony by the victim's mother and a different jury as leading to the guilty verdict.
Kelly's first trial ended in a hung jury last fall. His lawyer, Thomas Puccio, has promised to appeal. Kelly is free on one (M) million dollar bond. A sentencing date has been set for July 24th.
