Some New York apartment renters may be a little nervous this weekend, awaiting word on the status of rent regulations.
Those regulations expire midnight tomorrow unless Legislative leaders come up with an extension or a compromise. Talks have broken off, and there's been no reported progress.
Governor George Pataki, Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno and Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver all say they will try again tomorrow. Just in case no agreement is reached, Governor Pataki has issued an executive order to protect tenants from unscrupulous landlords.
Pataki says landlords trying to take advantage of tenants will be caught and prosecuted.
