Police Look For Mother Of Abandoned Baby

Police in Edison, New Jersey are still looking for the mother of a baby girl found abandoned in a trash can outside the local library.

Police say the four-pound, seven-ounce baby is doing fine at Kennedy Memorial Hospital. They say she was born about a month short of full-term and may be of Asian heritage.

State child welfare officials are expected to take custody of the infant when she is released from the hospital.

The trash-bin discovery is one of four cases in New Jersey within the last month involving the apparent abandonment of newborns.
