For the first time in 40 years, two New York baseball teams met in a game that counts. And the outcome wasn't quite what Yankee fans had in mind. But it was everything the Mets fans had in mind.
The Mets and Yankees faced each other up at the House that Ruth built in the Bronx. It's a "subway series" with the number 4 stop at 161st Street and River Avenue...the final destination.
The Mets fans could be heard in Yankee Stadium as they stood and applauded the work of Dave Mlicki, who pitched a nine-hit shutout for the Mets. It was his first complete game shutout of his career in the first ever regular season game between the Mets and Yankees.
