A pair of contact lenses is being blamed for a very rough landing at LaGuardia Airport last October that sheared off the landing gear of the Delta M-D 80.
Now federal safety officials say the pilot of the jetliner came in too low because he was wearing unapproved contact lenses that distorted his depth perception.
As a result, investigators say the pilot thought he was farther from and higher above the runway than he actually was.
Three passengers suffered minor injuires while evacuating the plane.
