Friend Sticks Up For "Prom Mom"

Melissa Drexler's best friend went on television last night to make a plea to understand her friend.

You'll remember Drexler is the 18-year old New Jersey teen who gave birth to a baby at her high school prom, and then stuffed the child's body in the trash before returning to the dance floor.

A tearful Jennifer Cavanaugh told "Hard Copy" Melissa is not a baby killer. She says Drexler didn't even know she was pregnant until she delivered the baby.

While Cavanaugh is standing firm beside her friend, other students at Lacey township High School aren't being so kind.

Newsweek magazine reports some students put signs on high school trash cans reading "deposit baby here" and others are placing bets whether Melissa will show up at graduation.
