U.S. stocks soared higher into record territory in late trading on Thursday with the Dow Jones industrial average brushing the 7800 mark for the first time.

The 30-stock blue chip average was up 81 to 7800 in late trading. A bullish spirit overcame a stronger-than-expected report on the economy. Some say the market took on the attitude of Prudential market analyst Ralph Acompora, who earlier in the day raised his already-high targets for the Dow to 10,000 in one year.
