One lawmaker said it was like getting a root canal.
But late last night New York legislators finally passed a rent control law. Governor Pataki says he'll sign it, maybe as early as today.
Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, who fought to keep the rent rules in place, says this is a law he can live with.
The law will end rent protections for those making more than 175 thousand dollars a year, living in apartments that cost more than two thousand dollars a month.
