City Tries Out New Parking Plan

By Newsradio 88 Staff

The city is going something else to try and improve traffic flow in Manhattan and increase the number of available parking spaces.

Delivery vans will be offered a way to pay for only the time they sit at the curb. For example, you have to buy time at a meter in 15-minute intervals, even if you are only there five minutes.

Delivery trucks will be given a special pre-paid parking card that they slip into the meter when they park, then again when they leave. They are charged only for the time they are there.

It’s hoped this will move trucks out faster, open up the spaces for Others, and cut down on double parking.
