Bronx Borough President Fernando Ferrer is to have his thymus gland removed at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
Ferrer's office says the 47-year-old politician's doctor discovered an enlargement in the gland last week, and is calling the surgery routine. It's scheduled for tomorrow.
The thymus gland is in the upper chest. It's crucial to children's development, but does little for adults.
Ferrer should be back to work next week.
