9a] WCBS, New York Media, Mourn Loss Of A Colleague

By Newsradio 88 Staff

Daniel Meenan, a reporter for radio station WMCA for three decades until his retirement in 1988, died Monday at New York Hospital.

He was 75 and had suffered from diabetes.

Meenan was married to WCBS reporter Irene Cornell.

Meenan covered City Hall late in his career, but some of his earlier reporting included a coup when Salvador Agron, called "Capeman," told the reporter where he hid the knife he used in the 1959 slayings of two 16-year-olds. Paul Simon's new musical "The Capeman" is based on that story.

Before joining WMCA, Meenan was an assignment editor at WPIX-TV. His first journalism job was copy boy at the Daily News.
