Christmas Reservations Cancelled at Fancy West Side Restaurant

People planning to celebrate Christmas at a restaurant on Central Park West will be scrambling to put dinner on their own tables this afternoon.

Hundreds of Christmas Day reservations are canceled at Cafe des Artistes -- due to a kitchen fire. The restaurant is at Central Park West and 67th Street.

A Fire department spokesman says it appears that the fire was caused by a short in an electrical panel in the restaurant's basement. The restaurant's general manager says repairs to the kitchen would take until at least Sunday to complete.
